Wireless access points


The hub receives a signal and sends it out to the other ports

Traffic is sent to all ports of the hub, this causes collisions when signals from other devices clash and both signals are cancelled out.

Bridges and switches

Bridges send information to two ports while switches send information to many ports. The MAC addresses are stored and information is sent to the specific port which requested it.


These are the same as switches but use IP addresses

Wireless access points

These use radio waves and have a limited range of coverage


This is where a combination of switch, router and a wireless point function are all in one box to provide multiple ways of networking
