Configuring the NIC

The computer will need an IP address

Start-> Control panel-> Network connections-> Local area network

Every NIC must be configured with the following:

The same protocol must be implemented between communicating computers (we want them to speak the same language)

The IP address is configurable and must be unique to each device, the IP addy can be manually configured or automatically assigned by DHCP

Each device has a unique MAC addy, the MAC addy is assigned by the manufacturer and cannot be changed.

Testing with PING

Checks that the computer being worked on is receiving data from other computers/websites.

Use tracert to trace the hops your message makes to get to the website

*Type into run or search bar ipconfig to find your IP address*
