  • Identify the problem
  • Establish a theory of possible causes
  • Determine an exact cause
  • Implement a solution
  • Verify the solution and full system functionality
  • Document findings

* Use a logical procedure

* Do one variable at a time

* The first and last steps involve communicating on different tech levels

* Don’t over complicate things

* Check for back ups and integrity, last date and contents of said back ups

* Ask customer to sign a release form on their data

* You need the customers info. before you begin. Name, phone, addy etc. as well as computer information

* To get a description of the problem ask open-ended/ closed-ended questions depending on the situation

* (Ask about and) Check for other issues after fixing the initial problem/s
